Ayane Yagi (八木 綾音, Yagi Ayane) is a minor character in Battle Royale II: Requiem.
Background[]
Born locally, Ayane was sexually harassed by her teacher in elementary school, causing her to boycott school ever since. In junior high school, she joined the basketball society, and was a part of the local group with Kana Yuki and Eri Yoshiyama. She had a crush on Tatsuro Morishima, and had confessed her feelings to him, but he rejected her as he had no interest in girls.
Before the Program[]
In December 2003, Ayane was in a coach bus with all of her classmates and her class teacher Riki Takeuchi, heading for their Christmas school trip. However, unknown to them, they have been chosen to participate in the BRII Program, and the bus was actually going to the military base setup for the program. After entering a tunnel, all of the students on the bus have fallen asleep; this was deliberately caused by the officials of the program, by pumping sleeping gas into the bus.
When Ayane and the others woke up, the bus had already arrived at the military base, with numerous journalists outside rushing to report on them. They were forced to exit the bus, then put on combat uniforms and watches, and were seized to get into a caged room. Moments later, Riki entered the room. Ayane was holding hands with Kana Yuki, and they were among the students who shouted his name. However, they soon realized Riki was part of the program, and that he was lying to them from the beginning. An angry Masami Shibaki attempted to kill Riki by throwing a knife at him, but it missed. Riki then took the knife to intimidate his students, and Ayane was trying her best to protect a scared Kana, who was seen hiding behind her the whole time.
Riki first explained the goal of the program, which was to track down Shuya Nanahara and kill him. Afterward, he pointed to the white line on the floor. He claimed the right side of the line belonged to winners, and the left side was for the losers. The soldiers at the back then pushed the students around, and Ayane ended up on the left side along with most of her classmates. Soon, the students on the right side decided to go back with the rest of them, including Shiho Matsuki, who was grabbed by Ayane when she returned to the left side.
With all the students now on the left side, Riki started to call their names one by one, so that they could go to the right side and get their assigned supplies. While waiting for their names to be called, Ayane and Shiho have closely witnessed the brutal death of Shintaro Makimura, who refused to get his supplies. Since Shintaro died, the collar on his partner, Kazumi Fukuda, has detonated. Ayane and Shiho were right next to Kazumi when her collar detonated, and was hit by the blood spray.
After the deaths of the two, the program officially started. The surviving students were released from the caged room, and they all received a rifle prepared before being loaded onto the boats.
During the Program[]
Under the guidance of a helicopter, the students were heading to the island by six zodiac boats, and Ayane was assigned to ride on the same boat with Tatsuro Morishima, Ai Yazawa, Hibiki Yano, Kana Yuki, and Eri Yoshiyama. At 6:00 AM, the helicopter pilot started introducing the details of the mission to the students, while Hibiki was panicking and pushed Ayane away to get to the edge of the boat.
Suddenly, members of the Wild Seven started shooting at the boats from buildings on the island. Ayane was hit by a bullet in the left arm, causing everyone on her boat to panic. An injured Ayane was seen lying down near Hibiki, when a rocket was launched from the island towards their boat. A pool of blood then splashed out from someone behind Hibiki, and the boat was hit by the rocket causing a huge explosion, killing everyone aboard.
Etymology[]
- The name Ayane means "design" (綾) (aya) and "sound" (音) (ne).
- Ayane's surname Yagi means "eight" (八) (ya) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki/gi).
References[]
- ↑ While Riki Takeuchi announced her position as the 38th, it has been proven that his announcement might not be entirely reflecting the real situation. In fact, Ayane Yagi was killed along with 5 other students on the boat that exploded, and her position should be between the 34th and 39th. However, based on the explaining below, she should be killed before Hibiki Yano. Therefore, instead of the 38th, her actual position should be the 39th.
- ↑ Seconds before the explosion occurred, a pool of blood was seen spilling out from someone's body behind Hibiki Yano. Since Tatsuro Morishima and Ai Yazawa, who were locating right behind Hibiki, were shown to be alive when the boat blown up, the blood could only be spilling out from Ayane Yagi, whose left arm was injured and was last seen lying down on the boat near Hibiki. Also, the exact manner of her death was ambiguous, as only her blood was seen, but it was very likely that she was shot by the Wild Seven.
