Battle Royale, as of July 2012, is a television series concept currently being considered by The CW Television Network.
Background[]
It seems that after the success of the The Hunger Games film, it would appear that The CW Television Network is trying to cash in on their 18 to 34-year-old demographic using the same model.
During the summer of 2012, the network was in discussion with Hollywood representatives about the possibility of turning Battle Royale into an American television show. According to a spokesperson, the talks were only preliminary, but if a deal could be reached, the network would acquire rights to Koushun Takami’s underlying novel, then unpack and expand on it for an hourlong dramatic series. Joyce Jun, a Hollywood attorney representing U.S. rights to the title, states that "there is no deal in place." A CW spokesman confirmed only there had been some discussion but declined to comment further. [1]
Also in an interview with Roy Lee(who had plans to re-make Battle Royale as a film but ditched it because of the very similar and successful Hunger Games) was asked if he instead considered making BR into a T.V. series, he stated that he had never thought of it that way and that he would get in contact with others who may be interested.
As of 2013, the TV series has been reportedly canceled.
