Kazushi Niida (新井田 和志, Niida Kazushi) is a minor character in Battle Royale.

Backstory

Not much was know about Kazushi's past other than that he frequently made excuses and blamed others for things that were his own fault.

Friends and Enemies

It is unknown who Kazushi hangs out with. He had a crush on Takako Chigusa, who despised his existence. If Kazushi was anything like his novel and manga counterparts, he might have been friends with Tatsumichi Oki, Toshinori Oda and Tadakatsu Hatagami.

Before the Program[]

Before Kitano resigned, Class B decided to take a day off and skip school, Kazushi included; he attended the basketball game against Class A, and celebrated when Class B won. Kazushi decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, he most likely took a nap. Kazushi fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas pumped into the bus; he was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.

Kazushi, along with the rest of the class, woke up in a classroom in the island’s school. Unnerved by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, Kazushi rushed over to the window to watch a helicopter land in front of the school. Kazushi was shocked to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Kazushi kept quiet, obviously knowing the law, but afraid to say it aloud. Kazushi was horrified upon seeing Masao Hayashida's corpse. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Kazushi panicked and ran for the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the classroom when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Kazushi ran around the room trying to evade him.

When Kazushi's name was called, he grabbed his school bag and ran towards the front of the room; he caught his supply bag and ran out of the school.

During the Program

When Kazushi first left the school, he saw Yoshio Akamatsu crawling around. He picked up Yoshio's crossbow and asked if it was his, and Yoshio charges, causing Kazushi to shoot instinctively, killing Yoshio. Taking the crossbow, Kazushi disappears into the woods.

KazushiDead

Kazushi's dead body as Mitsuko Souma (background) chases after and shoots his killer, Takako Chigusa.

Later on, Kazushi came across Takako Chigusa, and asked her to join him. He also propositioned her, which she refused; When Takako refused his request, and insulted his penis, Kazushi pointed the crossbow at her head saying that he can force himself on her and he will. Takako then told him to try it and Kazushi fired the crossbow, grazing her cheek. Kazushi then asks if she's okay. Takako touched the wound, then looked at the blood on her fingers and became infuriated. Kazushi then claimed that it was her fault and that he made her do it. Takako remarked that Kazushi always blames his mistakes on others, which is the reason why she hates his guts.

When Takako pulled out her jack knife, Kazushi ran toward the forest, up a small hill, and away from her, but she managed to catch up and gashed his back with her switchblade. He and Takako then fall to the ground, he desperately tries to disarm her, but ends up falling down the hill. He then let go of the blade and tried to run away again. Takako then grabbed his supply bag, jumped on his back and stabbed him. The two fell to the ground, where Takako then got on top of him and stabbed him twice in the groin. He frantically tried to push her off of him but Takako stabbed him once in the stomach, killing him.

Mitsuko Souma would end up avenging Kazushi when she fatally shoots Takako.
