Kyoko Kakei (筧 今日子, Kakei Kyōko) is a minor character in Battle Royale II: Requiem.
Backstory[]
Kyoko is a tennis player. She's the "cool" girl in school, and has a stubborn, take-charge attitude. Because she has three older brothers, she isn’t intimidated by boys and often makes fun of them.
Before the Program[]
At the start of the program when the students' names were being called in order, when Kyoko's name was called, Nozomi Sagisawa, Risa Shindo, Honami Totsuka, and Mayu Hasuda tried to stop her from joining the winners side. However, after her partner, Osamu Kasai joins the winners side, she does too.
During the Program[]
She survives Mission 1: "Landing", and ends up in Group A when the class gets split up. On Mission 2 "Gathering Supplies" after Shugo's collar is activated, Kyoko notices Miki hiding in a danger zone. The group calls Miki over to come back to them, but she runs away. After Miki's collar explodes, she screams her name in loss, and is visibly saddened about her death. After the deaths of Miki and Shugo, the group hides in some ruins. When the group rests, Osamu flops over on Kyoko's shoulder when napping, and she pushes him off with a disgusted expression.
On Day 2, Kyoko is seen taking care of Nozomi along with Risa and Mayu. After Nozomi coughs out blood, the rest of the remaining students circle around her. Unfortunately, Nozomi's injuries are too severe and she dies, causing her, Risa, and Mayu to cry. When the Wild Seven base is struck by missiles, Kyoko rushes to check on a badly injured member, who hands her a baby and tells her to take care of him and the rest of the children before dying. At night, she attends the memorial bonfire, mourning the loss of her friends. Kyoko and the surviving students are then seen going through a tunnel to escape, and while going through, Osamu confesses that he was always in love with her and asks what he should do; she tells him to go and fight, and Osamu does so. As soon as the students and some children see light, they all run through the tunnel. She survives and escapes along with Nao, Haruya, Risa, and Mayu. The students and children head to Afghanistan where they live for three months while waiting for Takuma Aoi and Shuya Nanahara. When they do reunite, Kyoko is overjoyed, though she can't hug Taku since she's holding the baby. The students choose not to join Wild Seven, and Kyoko, along with the baby, stays in Afghanistan, presumably for the rest of their lives.
Etymology[]
- The name Kyoko means "today, this day" (今日) (kyo) and "child" (子) (ko).
