Mizuho Inada (稲田 瑞穂, Inada Mizuho) is a minor character in Battle Royale.

Backstory[]

Nothing was known of Mizuho's life before she was forced into the program. It can be assumed that under great stress, Mizuho will resort to anything in order figure out how to save herself. If Mizuho was anything like her novel or manga counterparts, then she would've enjoyed RPGs to the point that she got lost in her imagination, but if she was schizophrenic, she didn't show it or was taking medication.

Friends and Enemies[]

Mizuho's best friend was Kaori Minami. She might've been friends with Megumi Eto, though it's never confirmed. She may also have been friends with Yumiko Kusaka and Yukiko Kitano since at one point Mizuho is seen grabbing Yumiko's hand.

Before the Program[]

Before Kitano retired, Class-B decided to take a day off and skip school, Mizuho included. She attended the basketball game against Class A and celebrated when Class B won. Mizuho decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, she most likely either chatted with Kaori or played patty-cake with Masao Hayashida, Yukie Utsumi, Satomi Noda, Haruka Tanizawa, and a few other girls. Mizuho fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas that was pumped into the bus and was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.

Mizuho, along with the rest of the class woke up in a classroom on the island; confused by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, she rushed over to the windows and watched a helicopter land next to the school. Mizuho was shocked to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Mizuho kept quiet, obviously knowing what the law is but afraid to say it aloud. Mizuho was horrified upon seeing Mr. Hayashida's dead body. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Mizuho panicked and ran towards the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the room when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Mizuho ran around the room trying to avoid him.

When Mizuho's name is called, she gets up and and grabs her school bag before walking towards the front of the classroom; Kaori runs up to her and tells her that they'll always be friends regardless of what happens, to which Mizuho tearfully responds that she knows before catching her supply bag and running out of the school.

During the Program[]

Mizuho and Kaori manage to meet up with each other and survive until they find a life preserver; in a self-preservation induced panic, the two girls end up killing each other, with Mizuho stabbing Kaori in the side with her knife and Kaori driving her axe into Mizuho's stomach.

Etymology[]

  • The name Mizuho means "felicitous omen, auspicious" (瑞) (mizu) and "grain" (穂) (ho).
  • Mizuho's surname Inada means "rice plant" (稲) (ina) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da).

Trivia[]

  • This is the only version of Mizuho who manages to kill someone.
  • This is the only version of Mizuho who does not fall inside the top ten final students in the competition. She finishes 5th in the novel and 8th in the manga respectively.
  • This is the only version of Mizuho who doesn't succumb to her delusions.
