Friends and Enemies[]
Toshinori did not appear to be close to any of his classmates.
Before the Program
Before Kitano resigned, Class B decided to take a day off and skip school, Toshinori included; he attended the basketball game against Class A and celebrated when Class B won. Toshinori decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, he most likely took a nap. Toshinori fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas that was pumped into the bus; he was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.
Toshinori, along with the rest of the class, woke up in a classroom in the island's school. Unnerved by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, Toshinori rushed over to the window and watched a helicopter land in front of the school. Toshinori was surprised to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Toshinori kept quiet, obviously knowing the law but afraid to say it aloud. Toshinori was horrified upon seeing Masao Hayashida's corpse. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Toshinori panicked and ran for the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the classroom when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Toshinori ran around the room trying to evade him.
When Toshinori's name was called, he grabbed his school bag and jacket before catching his supply bag and running out of the school.
During the Program[]

Toshinori's body after being decapitated by Kazuo Kiriyama.
Toshinori is found by Kazuo Kiriyama who chases him. Toshinori manages to reach the clinic where Shuya Nanahara, Shogo Kawada, and Noriko Nakagawa are hiding; he rides by on a bike while Kazuo fires at him. Toshinori asks Kazuo what he did to him, but Kazuo just shoots him. Toshinori survives thanks to his Kevlar vest but fakes death until Kazuo leaves. Toshinori loudly exclaims his delight at fooling Kazuo, but he then hears a sound from the clinic roof. He turns and sees Kazuo on the roof, holding Yumiko Kusaka's katana; he screams as Kazuo jumps down and cuts off his head. Kazuo then stuffs one of Izumi Kanai's grenades into his mouth and throws the head inside the clinic to try and kill Shuya, Shogo and Noriko, although he is unsuccessful.
