Backstory[]
Yukie Utsumi (内海 幸枝, Utsumi Yukie) is the female class representative and a setter of the volleyball team. She is an intelligent, caring girl, who is bold enough to say what she is thinking. She is held in high regard by most of her classmates, as both Shinji Mimura and the proud Takako Chigusa consider her to be trustworthy.
In Angels' Border, it is revealed that her father is a part of the nonaggressive forces. Shortly before the program, she asks him what the purpose of the program is. He offers an answer, but is unable to offer a way to prevent any future programs from happening. He offers her a cellphone in case she does end up in the program, but she rejects it, angrily telling him that she would happily die if that's what her father wanted. Since then, their relationship has been strained.
It is described that she had been groped on a train by a middle-aged man, to whom she stood up against. He claims innocence to the other passengers, and quietly threatens to kill her if she ever speaks out again. She later breaks down about the incident to her best friend, Haruka Tanizawa.
Yukie is described as a model student and she often organised events such as the girl's volleyball.
Appearance[]
Yukie is described as having her hair styled into twin braids, and has full lips.
Friends and Enemies[]
Yukie appears to be on good terms with most in the class, but she is best friends with Haruka Tanizawa who is on the volleyball team too. She is also good friends with: Chisato Matsui, Satomi Noda, Noriko Nakagawa, Izumi Kanai, and Yuka Nakagawa. She has had a crush on Shuya Nanahara ever since fifth grade, when they spent an afternoon in the school gym allocating space for their separate sports games.
In the Program[]
Yukie first leaves the school alone, but then finds Haruka Tanizawa, and encourages her to return to the school to recruit as many allies as they can.
When they return to the school, they end up recruiting Yuka, Satomi, and Chisato. Satomi makes the argument to only let girls join. They call out to Kaori Minami, who flees as soon as she sees the girls. They decide against letting Yoshimi Yahagi join, as she was a member of Mitsuko Souma's gang. Yukie approaches Sakura Ogawa and Kazuhiko Yamamoto to recruit them, but they mistake the sound of her footsteps for an enemy, which causes them to jump off a cliff together.
She and the rest of her group find a lighthouse and lock themselves in. A scout discovers Yuko Sakaki, who's verging on catatonic. Later that night, Haruka sees an injured Shuya fall down a steep hill. After bringing him in, Yukie takes care of him and dresses his wounds and she also convinces the other girls to let him stay. When Shuya awakens, Yukie tells him who has died while he was out. She mentions that several people, including Hirono Shimizu, Yutaka Seto, Keita Iijima, Yuichiro Takiguchi, Tadakatsu Hatagami, Toshinori Oda, and Shuya's good friend Shinji Mimura, have died. Yukie admits to Shuya that she is in love with him, and tells him she wouldn't know what she would have done if he had died. He tells her about Shogo having a plan to get them off the island, and extends the offer to her and her friends.
In the kitchen, once Yukie has announced that Shuya has woken up, she attempts to poison his food, having witnessed the aftermath of his struggle with Tatsumichi Oki, and is terrified that he will kill the girls too. Yuka tastes the dish that was meant for Shuya, which instantly kills her. This causes Satomi to become paranoid and accuse one of the girls of plotting to murder them all. After Satomi shoots Chisato, Yukie runs forward with her gun pointed in order to take down Satomi, but she is shot, and subsequently killed, by Satomi.
